Concept
Zahret Al-Nil is a floating cultural market in Cairo whose plan unfolds towards the water like lotus petals, drawing on the lotus as an ancient Egyptian symbol of life and renewal. Flower-shaped canopies open for shade by day and close at night as lit lamps. Greywater irrigates the landscape, and the materials are sandstone, limestone and tensile shade sails.
